Garment Care Guide
Washing:
We recommend hand washing or using a delicate machine cycle with cool to lukewarm water to prevent shrinkage and fading.
Always use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softeners, which can stiffen the fabric over time.
Drying & Ironing:
- Hang to Dry: Always hang your shirt to air dry. This is the best way to prevent shrinkage and maintain the shirt's shape.
- Iron with Steam: Iron the shirt while it is still slightly damp. Use a steam iron on a low-to-medium heat setting to smooth out wrinkles and achieve a crisp, clean look.
Professional Dry Cleaning:
To preserve the fabric and structure, we recommend professional dry cleaning only when necessary—no more than two or three times a year. Always choose a reputable dry cleaner who specializes in fine garments.
Between Wears:
- Give it a Rest: Let your suit rest for at least 24 hours between wears. This allows the wool fibers to relax and recover, helping the garment maintain its shape.
- Use a Proper Hanger: Always hang your jacket on a wide-shouldered wooden hanger to support its structure and prevent sagging. Trousers should be hung from the cuff on a clip hanger to allow gravity to pull out creases.
- Gentle Brushing: Use a soft-bristled garment brush after each wear to remove dust and lint. This simple step keeps the fabric fresh and prevents debris from accumulating.
- Steaming Over Ironing: To remove light wrinkles, use a garment steamer. The steam relaxes the fibers and is far gentler than the direct heat of an iron. For a quick fix, hang your suit in the bathroom while you take a hot shower. The steam will help release wrinkles.
Long-Term Storage:
- Store your suits in a cool, dry, and dark place.
- Use a breathable garment bag (not a plastic dry cleaner bag) to protect your suit from dust and moisture while allowing the fabric to breathe.
- Check your pockets before storage to prevent any distortion of the garment's shape.
While our general care guidelines apply to all garments, different fabrics have unique characteristics.
- High "Super" Number Wools: Our finest fabrics are soft and light. Treat them with extra care and use them for special occasions rather than everyday wear.
- Linen & Cotton: The natural wrinkles in linen are part of its character. These fabrics are durable and can be worn more frequently, making them ideal for casual, warm-weather wear.
- Delicate Blends: Fabrics containing silk or mohair require extra attention. Always rely on a professional dry cleaner who is experienced with these materials to maintain their unique luster and texture.
